A Treasure for All, My Favourite Teahouse Cafe in Hoi An Old Town – Absolutely Rejuvenating and Tranquil Experience

I have been to different beaches and destinations throughout Vietnam and Hoi An is my favourite place of all. For its unique Old Town vibe, vibrant lanterns and serene atmosphere, it stands as the number one destination in my heart despite the huge number of visitors filling in every street and corner.

It was a place where I stayed the longest during my one-month trip last year and I would have happily stayed much longer only if I had more time. There are already many famous restaurants and cafes offering authentic local cuisine and fantastic views over the town, but the best of the best in my opinion is a very special teahouse called Reaching Out Teahouse.

A traditional Hoi An building welcoming guests in for a treat
Reaching Out Teahouse

The unique and special concept of this teahouse is that it was initiated to give opportunities for independent living of physically impaired local artisans by practising their artisan skills and creating a space for guests to enjoy tea in tranquility.

There is a handmade craft shop as well as this teahouse in Hoi An’s Old Town run by physically impaired staff. However packed and noisy it may be outside on the street, inside this teahouse, you can be assured of silent and relaxing atmosphere to appreciate their delightful list of beverages.

The menu is not extensive, only offering few types of tea, coffee and juices. But whichever drink you go for, you’re guaranteed to be served in their beautifully crafted teaware and a cookie as a thoughtful treat.

Little wooden blocks, pencil and paper for communication with staff

My favourite part of Reaching Out teahouse is this small tray of little wooden blocks used for communication with staff. You can wave at the staff and show one of the blocks or write some questions on the brown paper to request for what you’d like. As the concept is all about embracing tea time and ceremony in silence, you are to whisper in respect to others.

While you’re waiting for your drinks, you can explore every corner and admire the little details and attention put into decorating the place and also check out their souvenir corner at the back behind the garden and by the service reception to see their handcrafted teaware, tea leaves and selection of seasonal snacks.

My 'Local Coffee' served in gold and adorable mini pots of sugar and condensed milk
Coffee ice cubes for my coffee - isn't that just wonderful?

The way they serve the drinks in style and elegance, the entire ambiance of the place, and coffee ice cubes for my coffee just amaze me every time I go here. All I wish is to be back here again and to spend a good afternoon here reading a book or writing a postcard while enjoying my tea and coffee.
