When we browse through pictures of Vietnam on Instagram, most of the trending shots include that of the famous Golden bridge, historic alleys of Hoi An, some delectable dishes and amazing natural sceneries. What if we told you, all of this and more is accessible in one amusement park near Da Nang, Vietnam.
The history of this place is rather simple. It was built and established solely for one purpose, to serve as a holiday escape for French colonialists and authorities staying all across Vietnam, but now it has turned into Vietnam’s own Disneyland of sorts. The abandoned European style villas atop the hill have now been harnessed by the Vietnamese tourism authorities to reap great revenue banking on the magnificent architecture and old-world charm.
Ba Na Hills, now a glorified amusement park replete with history is now so much and is still undergoing development but between the historic castles lays a modern five-star hotel premise offering the best services including fine dining restaurants, themed bars and even exciting rides. So now here’s everything you need to know for a Ba Na Hills itinerary…
Tickets & Commute
Located about 42Kms away from the coastal city of Da Nang, it can take anywhere between an hour and a half and two hours to get to Ba Na Hills. There are a ton of options for every budget starting right from a private cab to shared buses which start and conclude at set destinations. You could even get a grab to move in-out of the hills. A private cab with roundtrip transfer cost us about 40 USD. We preferred this option as there was no fixed time on our departure and that left flexibility in our schedule while visiting this park.
The price for tickets varies depending upon the package you choose, inclusive of meals or transport and also depending upon the portal you choose. You also have the option to buy the tickets from the Ba Na Hills premise itself, but we strongly advocate buying it in advance to skip the long queue.
We bought our ticket from one in the many stores laced along the highway to Ba Na Hills. All of these stores sell the ticket at about the same price just in case you want to skip buying it online via Klook where it would cost you 30 USD or lower depending on the promotions going on. So generally, the ticket for adults, a cable car ticket is 29 USD while for children it is 24 USD.
All about the attractions
Built with German, Swiss and Swedish equipment, the cable cars are quite picturesque, smooth and beautiful ride up to the hills. Making world record, both the gap stretches about 5,801 meters (19,402 feet) while it elevates 1,368 meters (4,488 feet) making the cable car quite an attraction.
One entire part of the amusement park features and highlights an array of colourful and beautiful flowers all neatly manicured to make an interesting sight and perfect pictures. You may spot many couples getting their wedding shots amidst all this beauty. Be sure to check out the wine cellar which completes the French experience because of the antique detailing.
Even though we visiting in the peak of summer, the French village atop the hill has a pleasant and windy weather which we could not get enough of and the lovely fun spirit was contagious. From live performances, to French style bistros and the Mercure property itself, the attention to detail and architecture led us to feel we were in Europe not central Vietnam…
Despite the hordes of attractions bottled up in this park, the Golden bridge remains the main attraction with crowds glocking it at every given time in the day. While we thought going early in the morning would ensure a clear shot with this magnificent walkway through the sky, there were many others who shared the same enthusiasm. The Golden bridge is quite spectacular, as it gives the illusion of sprouted limbs from the hill itself lifting up a golden thread of walkway high above the clifftops between the misty magical land of Ba Na Hills.
There are several other attractions at the Ba Na Hills making sure you have a fun-filled outing away from the coastal city. Year after year, the millions of tourists visiting Ba Na Hills are only on the rise for the authentic and also unique experiences it offers, it has something for every age group and makes for the perfect outing.
