Ha Noi Carnival 2019 at Hoan Kiem Lake, Old Quarter

This is a SUPER EXCITING news for everyone (including me!) who is in Hanoi to have this amazing opportunity to join the third Carnival happening in Hanoi!  There has been two Carnivals organised in the city so far – first time in 2017 and second time in May 2019 in celebration of 129th birth anniversary of Chu tich Ho Chi Minh, the former Prime Minister of Vietnam (a.k.a. the hero of the country).

This third Carnival is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hanoi being given the title of ‘City for Peach’ by UNESCO. There has been numerous remarkable events that happened this year including the second DPRK-US summit and Open Hanoi Dragon Boat Racing Festival held earlier this year. And here’s another big event right ahead!

The Carnival event will take place in Hoan Kiem lake in the Old Quarter, which turns into a car-free walking street during weekends. It will be happening for two days on 13th and 14th July with a variety of events to enjoy.

But the highlight performances will start from 9AM to 11AM on Sunday. The Vietnamese news channels announced that there will be 100 artists from all around the world to begin marching from Ly Thai To Square and perform at two points – Dai phun fountain and conjunction between Hang Khay and Hai Ba Trung streets (see Google maps below).

There will be famous Malambo drum show, circus, dance performances and more for you to bring home lots of fascinating and memorable pictures and experience as it is absolutely an unusual and unique experience in Vietnam!

Even without a special event, Hoan Kiem lake during the weekend is definitely my top suggestion of things to do in Hanoi. There will be no traffic and craze of cars and motorbikes passing by because it’s transformed into a walking street all day on Saturdays and Sundays. So you can enjoy a more peaceful walk around the beautiful lake during the day.

In the evening, things start to be more energetic and livelier with Vietnamese locals and tourists gathering around to do lots of different games and activities such as rope skipping, shuttlecock kicking, dancing and much more.

So I’m thrilled to find out what it will be like at the Carnival and how it will escalate the fun vibe that’s always and already there every weekend!

In summary, the Hanoi Carnival July 2019 will be held:

on 13 – 14/07/2019 (Saturday & Sunday)

Main Event 09:00 – 11:00 on Sunday, 14/07/2019

Performance points – Dai phun fountain & McDonalds Hoan Kiem
