Walking around and sightseeing along with the heavy traffic and honking noise in Hanoi can be physically and mentally challenging for many foreigners who are new to this scene.
There’s a beautiful park called Thong Nhat park very close to the Old Quarter. If time allows, visiting this park during your stay in Hanoi can be a nice little retreat for yourself from the Hanoi’s hustle and bustle.
I live near this park and truly enjoy going here for a walk because the vibe inside offers a very different kind of experience from outside the park. The park is full of life of people jogging, walking their dogs and participating in group exercise and full of green trees and grass.
The park also has an entertainment area for children – mini train rides and other kinds of rides as well as swan boats open during the weekends.
Sitting on a bench by the lake is so relaxing. A perfect spot to take a break from the busy life outside the park.
Every evening, there are different groups of people doing exercises together. Some groups do aerobic dance with loud music and some practise yoga in peace.
Visiting this park is a true local experience and a golden opportunity to merge into the local scene.
I love going here for a jog at different times of day because the same park has different vibes depending on the time and day. Evenings and weekends are always full of people and mornings and afternoons during the week are quieter. Visiting to enjoy the sunset here is also a great choice.
Various different festivals are held in this park. The photo above is from the Hanoi’s Food Festival held in Thong Nhat park and it was an amazing opportunity to try different kinds of local dishes.
