So, as promised, here is the next edition of the Foodie Special following the previous one ‘Ultimate Places to Eat in Saigon‘. I’ve managed to find a few more places you should definitely pay a visit to in Ho Chi Minh. It seems like every week there is a new restaurant or eatery opening its door here. So competition is hotting up!
The Drunken Pot
28 Phạm Hồng Thái, Phường Bến Thành, Quận 1
As you can guess from the restaurant name, it’s some of the best hotpot in town. But, also offers an extensive sashimi menu. Presentation here is extraordinary, so only after a few dishes, your table is brim full of extravagant garnishing. If you are willing to fork out a little bit more than usual, you can get excellent service and probably the largest range of hotpot stock to choose from in all the city.
23 Hàn Thuyên, Bến Nghé, Quận 1
Understandably hotpot is not for everyone, so I recently ate a meal at Au Parc, a Mediterranean style restaurant, just off Pasteur Street. Elegant and comforting décor and furnishings, make this place a great place to eat any time during the day. I had to visit as some of my favourite food is Mediterranean and wow, these guys know how to make it. On a side note their cocktails are very nice too and they offer half price discounts between certain times of the evening.
Nướng & Bia
31 Lê Quý Đôn, Phường 7, Quận 3 / CC26, Trường Sơn, Phường 15, Quận 10 / 62 Đường Trần Não, P. Bình An, Quận 2
As always I have to mention a local Vietnamese restaurant, and right now the trendiest of these is Nuong & Bia, they are taking Vietnamese local dining to a new level. With a few restaurants dotted throughout the city, it doesn’t matter which one you go for. They are keeping the group/family vibe, while making the experience clean and hip. But, that doesn’t mean the prices are hugely elevated, in fact compared to more traditional local restaurants Nuong & Bia have found a niche that young Vietnamese groups and professional colleagues cannot resist.
6 Tống Hữu Định, Thảo Điền, Quận 2
If fast food is more your thing, then have no fear there are plenty of gourmet burger spots in Saigon, but my favourite is undoubtedly Surf Shack, tucked away down a quiet road in District 2, it is further out of the centre than most places, but considering the ex-pat location of District 2, the prices are super reasonable. I will put my hands up and say they are the best burgers in town.
Bao Bei Chinese Restaurant
Tầng 2 Viettel Complex Building, 285 CMT8, P. 12, Quận 10
Last on the list, a Hong Kong Style Chinese Restaurant. This place oozes HK style, everything from the décor to the smells of the food. It’s definitely on the more decadent spectrum of dining, but honestly the food here is tremendous. Also if you are into neon lighting this one of the only places in Saigon where you can enjoy it and get some great photos.
In the next ‘Foodie Special’. I will be concentrating solely on Vietnamese Cuisine and the best places to eat it. If you are into experiencing the best street food, then wait for the next edition of the Saigon ‘Foodie Special’. In the meantime, book yourself in to some of these mouth-watering restaurants. And a final tip I have never mentioned before. If you haven’t downloaded the Now or Foody App, make sure you do and reserve your table through the app. More often than not there are discounts which you can’t get unless you book through the app. Happy dining!
