For passionate food adventurers, pork intestines should be included in your food journey in Hanoi. Included in my Complete Hanoi Food Guide as a rather challenging local dish, pork intestines are one of my favourite meals here.
I categorised it as ‘challenging’ because I believe there are some people who find this dish very exotic. But for the chewy texture of intestines and a great variety of ways to enjoy the dish, there is quite fandom of this dish, just like me. And thus I highly recommend you try!
In Old Quarter area of Hanoi, there are three top places to try this dish. If you’re tempted to give it a try or already a fan of pork intestines, you can choose from this list for delicious Vietnamese pork intestines.
Congee with Pork Intestines - One & Only in Hanoi
As one of my most recent restaurant discoveries in Hanoi, Dac San Chao is not only a great congee place but a fantastic place to try a variety of intestines in Hanoi. Dac San Chao means specialty congee and it’s stated on the sign that this place is the one and only restaurant. As they proudly stated, their congee does have a unique flavour and I really enjoyed it. Also, I love how there was a large variety of intestines including some parts I’d never tried. I recommend this place for a delicious breakfast.

Fried Intestines - Famous Restaurant in Hanoi
The second recommendation is a restaurant called Long Ran Nhat Quan in Old Quarter, Hanoi. It’s actually one of the most crowded and popular local restaurants in town, so it’s always full of life. I first visited this restaurant several years ago and it has been my favourite intestines restaurant in Hanoi since. What I love about this place is that they have about 5-6 different dishes of intestines prepared in different ways – steamed, stir-fried, fried and so on. In their menu, they also have pork ribs outside of intestines, and I always order a plate of that to enjoy the variety of texture.

This restaurant is a comparatively recent discovery. The restaurant is called Pho Ran Long Xao Nguyen Sieu and to my surprise, it is located on the same street as the restaurant above. Like I mentioned above, I’ve been a regular for several years, but I only noticed this restaurant recently. And both my boyfriend and I fell in love with the pork intestines here because they have a different variety of intestines from the ones in Long Ran restaurant. So it became my other favourite intestines restaurant in Hanoi. Here, there’s only one main dish, which is stir-fried intestines and is delectable. But the highlight is the yummy crispy egg fried pho noodle!
