One of my first articles was on top 5 hidden gem cafes in Hanoi and some of the places listed on that article are still my favourites. But as I’m a cafe explorer who loves to try as many different cafes to find a new treasure, I’ve been to many many new places since.
Living in Hanoi means living that busy city life with unimaginable traffic congestion, noise and crowd almost every day. I personally think that’s just part of what life in Hanoi is and I do not mind too much. But that’s because I always enjoy a nice getaway from the crazy hustle and bustle of this city.
My way of a little escape is mostly in cafes outside of Old Quarter, in local neighbourhoods or places tucked away from the crowd in the middle of city centre. I also love places where mostly or only locals go to because I feel more local.
You might be in need of a little break from the hectic activity and life going on in Hanoi or maybe you’re just like me who loves exploring hidden gems! If so, check out my top picks of best cafes where you can enjoy some seclusion and tranquility! These are not just the top hidden gems, but also some of the best cafes in Hanoi I’ve been to.
Xofa Cafe & Bistro
This cafe is my most recent obsession because I’m still surprised (after many visits) with how the owner of this place came up with such a brilliant concept and how they did such a wonderful job in making this place a true treasure! It is located in the centre of Food Street in the Old Quarter, but it is absolutely secluded and super laid back inside the place. Once you step inside, you’d immediately forget that you’re in Hanoi.
It’s a perfect place for a good book reading session, a decent meal and/ or chat with your friends. What’s even crazier is that this place is open for 24 hours (that is something unbelievable in Hanoi)!
Address: 14 Tống Duy Tân, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
Everyday Open 24 Hours
Tranquil Books & Coffee
One of my earliest discoveries and favourites in town and it still is. As the name suggests, there are bookshelves and the entire place is decorated and lit with the intention of making the place cosy and peaceful. It’s like a really comfy and laid-back library where you can spend some quality time on your own or with company to work on your laptop or read a good book.
There are three different locations, but my number 1 favourite is on Nguyen Bieu street then my second favourite is the one on Nguyen Quang Bich street.
18B Nguyễn Biểu, Quán Thánh, Ba Đình, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam
Open Everyday 08:00 – 22:30
5 Nguyễn Quang Bích, Cửa Đông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
Open Everyday 08:00 – 22:00
The Little Plan Cafe
This cafe has an amazing antique and classic feeling because of the thoughtfully designed furniture and decorations. What’s even more awesome is that the way into this cafe is a true adventure to a hidden treasure. You’ll have to find the right narrow alley through which you pass to get to the entrance of the Little Plan Cafe. It’s a wonderful place for a pure relaxation and it’s super close to St. Joseph’s church.
Address: 11 Phủ Doãn Hà Nội Hanoi City, 110212, Vietnam
Open Everyday 08:00 – 22:00
Serein Cafe & Lounge
Everyone knows about the infamous Long Bien bridge and so many people go on the bridge to grab that special photo on the rustic bridge, which I’d say is a hustle to have just yourself in the frame without all the others around. But not everyone knows about this place where you can not only enjoy the view of the stunning bridge, but chillax on the lounge sofas.
Serein Cafe & Lounge is a multi-player, so I’d recommend going here in the evening for the night view as well as their amazing cocktails.
Address: 16 Trần Nhật Duật, Đồng Xuân, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
Open Everyday 09:00 – 23:00
Cang Tin Caphe
Cang Tin is another of my local hidden gems because it’s near where I live and I’m happy to live here as long as this cafe is here. It’s tucked away in a local neighbourhood down south from Hoan Kiem lake (Old Quarter) and in a quiet street. Their rustic and down-to-earth interior and ambiance are something to admire. Often, there are young Vietnamese students (probably university students) here to sing and play guitar! I cannot express how much I adore this place.
