Here are the places where you can and should visit to take some really photogenic, memorable and unique shots in Hanoi. These awesome photo spots include top tourist attractions as well as some hidden gems. I think you can bring back home a load of Instagrammable and special shots of beautiful Hanoi from these places. So I hope you’ll have a fun time exploring these places, enjoying the views and photographing Hanoi’s charm.
Train & Railway
Hanoi Train Street
For train and railway photos, Hanoi Train Street used to be the top photo spot in Hanoi. But the famous street was shut down last year (2019) due to safety reasons. Therefore, the lively scene of cafes right beside the railway is gone. Also, there are fences on both sides of the Train Street nowadays.
However, the security is pretty loose and that means you can still sneak in, walk on and around the railway and snap some awesome shots. So I think it’ll be still worth a visit for a photo session.

As an alternative to Hanoi Train Street, Laika Cafe offers a unique angle of train and railway bridge. Located near Long Bien train station, you get to sit for drinks just across the railway bridge and watch trains pass by. I really liked the view here as much as at the Train Street and I think it’s another perfect option for train and railway photo spot in Hanoi.

Long Bien Railway Bridge
Along with Hanoi Train Street, Long Bien railway bridge is definitely on top of the list for all photographers, Instagrammers and travellers. I don’t think I need to explain in words, but the picture does so. I love that rustic iron look and it’s a very special experience walking on the railway before the train comes.
I remember feeling bad for the train driver struggling (most definitely quite very disturbed) with all the tourists and locals hanging about on the railway. But this view is too good to miss out on.

Serein Cafe & Lounge
One of my favourite views in town is at Serein Cafe & Lounge just next to Long Bien train station. I would recommend you do both Long Bien train station and this cafe to get two different views of the same bridge. Personally, what’s awesome about this place is that they have some great cocktails. I highly recommend here if you’d like some happy cocktail time with night view of the bridge.

Lakes & Greens
Hoan Kiem Lake
Hoan Kiem lake is almost unnecessary to mention since it’s THE most famous tourist place and photo spot in Hanoi. Yet, I can’t not include it since the lake has some cool architectural and natural photo spots all around. The Turtle tower and Ngoc Son temple are some of the most photogenic attractions in town. I love them both during day and night (maybe more at night).
I also find Hoan Kiem lake a perfect place for a nice stroll. So, I recommend everyone to take a short walk and take full advantage of the beautiful photo spots all over the lake.
Address: Hang Trong, Hoàn Kiếm, Hanoi, Vietnam
The largest lake in Hanoi is another of my favourite places for a walk or a drive. I cannot express how much I love the vast horizon of this lake. I always feel super relaxed and really appreciate the calm water. It’s a huge lake and therefore it offers a great variety of views from different parts of the lake. My personal tip would be to go for sunset time to see the beautiful reflection on the lake.

Thong Nhat Park
This one is not one of the famous tourist attractions in Hanoi, but certainly a fantastic photo spot. Thong Nhat park called Union park in English is a huge park in the middle of Hanoi city. And it is a haven of abundant greens and is full of life. Of course, it’s also one of my favourite places for a peaceful stroll too. And it’s a fantastic sunset spot, so you’ll have plenty of gorgeous shots to take here.

Art & Architecture
St. Joseph's Cathedral
Another top must-visit places for tourists is St. Joseph’s Cathedral. This gothic church built with an inspiration from Notre Dam de Paris is a great photo spot for everyone. While the front shot is gorgeous, you can go to Lofita Nha Tho cafe for the rooftop view for a different and special angle.

Lofita Nha Tho, 12 Ấu Triệu, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội, Vietnam
An absolutely vibrant and colourful ceramic wall that stretches 6.5km long is another must visit photo spot in Hanoi. The mosaic wall was a clever idea to transform an old dike system into art. Every time I pass by this long wall of mosaics, I am just impressed.
The wall is on Âu Cơ, Nghi Tàm, Yên Phụ, Trần Nhật Duật, Trần Quang Khải, Trần Khánh Dư roads and ends around Long Biên Bridge. So you can either do a long walk from one end to another or pick any spot and explore.

All the way between Nghi Tam to Tran Khanh Du roads
Last but not least is this street full of stunning mural paintings on bridge under railway. There are paintings of Hanoi’s history, people and life. It’s perfect for daytime photoshoot, but also super atmospheric and photogenic at night. For some occasions like festivals, this street is usually decorated with gorgeous lanterns, which makes it much more vibrant and beautiful.
