So, we have covered a lot of places to grab a bite to eat here in Saigon, but not the best places to quench your thirst. Here are a list of the best places to chill after a long day sightseeing.
Nong Trai Khoai
89 Phạm Viết Chánh, Phường 19, Bình Thạnh
First on the list is Nong Trai Khoai, a popular drinking spot in Bin Thanh district. Popular with locals, expats and tourists, you are welcomed with a quirky and grungy feel to this bar. They have an extensive beverage menu, with a wide choice of beers and some local beers that are hard to find elsewhere. They also serve food at a good price. Musn’t forget there are a few feline residents curled up on free seats.
Heart Of Darkness
31D Lý Tự Trọng, Bến Nghé, Quận 1
If you fancy something a bit more hardcore and metal influenced. You can’t go wrong with Heart Of Darkness, now a well-established local brewery. Personally, I think they produce the best craft beer in all of Saigon. Playlist is strictly punk, metal and hard rock. So, if that’s your thing, which it is for me, then you will feel right at home here.
20 Mạc Thị Bưởi, Bến Nghé, Quận 1
Now, if cocktails is more your thing, then for sure get yourself to Firkin Bar, as with most cocktail bars, it’s upmarket and sleek. This place can get full rather quick most nights, so making a booking for a table is advisable. I’ve turned up there before and told the wait for a table could be 2 hours. Cocktails has become big business in recent years in most Asian cities, so finding the bars that really know how to do it can be daunting. But, Firkin Bar does not disappoint.
14 Tôn Thất Đạm, Phường Nguyễn Thái Bình, Quận 1
Staying with cocktails, if you like finding the hidden speakeasy bars, then Snuffbox is right up there. As you would expect for a speakeasy, there’s not much to see outside, but once you make it in, you get swept away with the vibes and you can enjoy a beautifully made cocktail knowing you are hidden away from the rest of the city.
These next bars I have already mentioned in previous articles, but they are so good it’s worth reminding you or giving a heads up if you haven’t read my other top places to visit in Saigon. So, of course my favourite bar in all of Saigon is Mary Jane’s rooftop bar. Good atmosphere, good prices and spectacular views. Then one of the hippest hangouts in downtown Saigon is Indika. If you are lucky there will be a band playing or some live stand-up comedy.
Mary Jane's - 85 Nguyễn Hữu Cầu, Tân Định, Quận 1
Indika - 43 Đường Nguyễn Văn Giai, Đa Kao, Quận 1
Any city has a plethora of drinking spots, but for me these are the top bars to have a drink and truly take in the Saigon spirit of social drinking. As always drink responsibly, if you are new to Vietnam, remember the hot weather can become a problem especially if you are drinking, so take care, but enjoy yourself.
