Which Accommodation Suits You Best in Hanoi? List by Budget Category – From Hostels to Hotels

When it comes to choosing the perfect hotel / hostel that fits all the criteria, it can be a tough decision to make because there are hundreds and thousands of options to choose from.

Hanoi’s Old Quarter surrounding Hoan Kiem lake is filled with accommodations of all sizes and prices. They can cater for all budget groups from as little as few dollars for a bed to hundreds of dollars per night for a private room.

Few primary criteria can be commonly applied and taken into consideration when narrowing down options before making a decision. Location, price and service can be to name a few. Staying in the Old Quarter is the most logical and natural choice for most travellers because this is where many, if not most of the popular sights are in and around. The price range can be huge if you’re looking at all the bountiful hotels and hostels marked on maps on booking sites.

To help you find the best choice, I will introduce accommodations in three budget categories – budget, mid-range and luxury. These recommendations are based on personal experience as well as reviews from my friends and others.

Budget – Hostels

The Old Quarter is heaven to backpackers for it offers a clean bunk bed at a cheap and affordable price and some hostels render exceptional services beyond expectations. A hostel with multiple bunk beds in one room is a top choice for many backpackers who’re looking to save money and make friends at the common area of hostels.

Top five hostels in this area is covered in details in another article. So you can go check out the full list here. But below are the top two for their prime locations, services and reputation.

Old Quarter View Hanoi Hostel

This hostel is on top of the list and ratings for the friendliness of staff, comfy beds and amazing location. It’s hidden away inside an alley only a few metres from the main beer street. There are dorms from 4 beds to 18 beds in each room. The price for a bunk bed in the 18-bed dorm is from $6.

Vietnam Backpacker Hostel Downtown

This is another major hostel and is notorious for amazing parties for its guests. The location is great and if you’re a party animal, this hostel is probably the best you can find in the entire town. There are 6-bed to 12-bed dorms and the lowest price is from $7 per night per bed.

Address: 9 Phố Mã Mây, Hàng Buồm, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

Budget – Hotels

While hostels accommodate for those who do not mind and/ or enjoy staying in a shared dormitory with others, there are plenty of options for those on budget looking for private rooms. Hotels with low rates (less than $30 per night) for a private room is abundant in the Old Quarter, but here’s the list of great suggestions for you.

Golden Time Hostel 3

Located in the centre inside the Walking Street during weekends, this tiny hostel has decent private rooms for a low price. The lowest rate starts from $20 per night for a double or twin room.

Address: 9 Phố Mã Mây, Hàng Buồm, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

Green Diamond Hotel

This hotel is also located in the centre of old town and Walking Street on weekends. The rooms are sufficiently clean and prices for a standard room starts from $25 per night.

Address: 96 Hàng Bạc, Hàng Buồm, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

For mid-range hotels with prices between $30 – $50 per night, you can expect a nice room with great services in a central location. Here are the three top choices for your consideration.

Classic Street Hotel

This small hotel on Hang Be street between the lake and beer street, has a cosy antique interior design. The price is from $30 up and usually includes free breakfast buffet.

Address: 41 Hàng Bè, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

Rising Dragon Palace Hotel

This hotel is part of a chain, thus there are few other Rising Dragon hotels in town. All of their properties are 3 stars. The lowest rate for Rising Dragon Palace Hotel is $40 for a night including breakfast.

Address: 24 Hàng Gà, Hàng Bồ, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

Golden Sun Suites

Another 3-star hotel chain is Golden Sun hotels. They have two properties adjoining to one another. They’re located close to the lake and their rate starts from $40.

Address: 35 Hàng Quạt, Hàng Gai, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

One of the perks of travelling in South East Asia is the affordability of everything. If we compare with the Western world, things are much cheaper and ‘affordable luxury’ is a reality here. $50 or more a night will leave you a good deal of choices from 4-star upward.

La Siesta Hotel & Spa and La Siesta Central Hotel & Spa

La Siesta group is a 4-star hotel group and has a great reputation for being a boutique hotel chain with great design and high quality service. They have several properties scattered around the Old Quarter and I’ve witnessed their expansion happening in the past few years. Two of their properties are recommended here, but you can check out their other properties if it interests you. The price starts from $100 per night.

La Siesta Hotel & Spa – 94 Phố Mã Mây, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

La Siesta Central Hotel & Spa – 1 Cầu Gỗ, Hàng Bạc, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000, Vietnam

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi

The list without this hotel premise mentioned would be incomplete because of its symbolic emphasis and historical prominence in the Old Quarter. Located just outside of the crowd for tranquility and independence, it is still a great location to walk to the lake and centre of the old town. The price is the highest in town starting from $300, but could be worth the price for its excellent service and luxurious facilities to indulge in.

Address: 15 Phố Ngô Quyền, Street, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội

InterContinental Hanoi West Lake

This one is outside of the Old Quarter, but I included this in the list for those who want to stay in a resort-like premise while enjoying the tourist sites in the centre. It is located in the West Lake adjacent to Hoan Kiem District and about 15-minute drive to Hoan Kiem lake. The lowest price of a superior room is $230.

Address: 15 Phố Ngô Quyền, Street, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội
